I once uploaded a performance video of Shrimp on a few magic forums.
There were mostly two types of comments: ”Wow! That is amazing!” and “That is great. Now try to make a routine out of it”.
The first type of reply came from younger people and some middle-aged people. These comments are not that important. I know it is good. That is why I uploaded it lol. Jk
Anyways, most older people and a few middle age people always tell me to make a routine with whatever I have shown them.
The question is, why do I need a routine? If I really have a magical power of some sort and I decide to vanish a coin for some reason, then I would make it disappear….. And that’s it. And maybe make it reappear only if people ask me to give it back to them.
If I am really doing magic, I wouldn’t even bother to make it appear and vanish thousand times because I have proven my magical power when I did the initial vanish.
Magicians always say ROUTINES ROUTINES ROUTINES because they cannot think of magic from “magician”’s point of view. In my opinion, most magicians are just laymen with weird knowledge. They are something between laymen and magician and can never actually impress other laymen nor can demonstrate “real” magic.
If we, magicians, are in a painting industry….laymen are people who absolutely do not know how to paint and painters are those who create masterpieces, then we are those who doodle on textbooks. Those doodles are cute but not as impressive nor important.
We are stuck in a “magician mentality” and can never do “real magic” unless we get out of it. Most things we do are just merely tricks. That is why people ask “Are you available for my kid’s birthday party” or some shit like that.
